Saudi Aramco has informed at least two European oil refining customers that they will not receive Saudi crude shipments next month. This follows an attack on the kingdom's key East-West pipeline, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday. These customers usually receive Saudi crude through long-term supply agreements that guarantee regular monthly deliveries. People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that those scheduled allocations will not be supplied next month.

Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran's "The Loop Tour" after facing intense backlash for making pro-Palestinian speeches and projecting a Palestinian flag during his opening performances at MetLife Stadium. According to Macklemore, New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft organized a powerful venue boycott, giving Sheeran an ultimatum to either remove the rapper or lose access to multiple major stadiums.

Just a reminder that there is no such thing as a "slowdown" in AI development. The federal government and the military industrial complex will never slow down. They may try to slow consumer development, but that doesnt mean the real technology is being hindered
What makes Surf truly special is that we're not only trying to curate a space for the free expression of ideas. But rather, this space is one for real human thought. We are doing everything in our power to keep out bots and automated systems in order to ensure that discussions on Surf are as real as possible.
There's a lot of strange doomsday hype surrounding AI nowadays. Yes, there is danger with how quickly AI is accelerating. However, do I think some of the PR stunts that Anthropic and OpenAI are pulling are simply to hype up how "dangerously powerful" AI is? Yes. We all know very well that the second the Department of War gets involved, it's full throttle, even if they try to slow the acceleration of consumer tech.
Islam is definitely the world's most misunderstood faith. Not because it is a difficult faith to understand, but it is a faith that many gain a lot from demonizing. There is nothing wrong with having theological disagreements. But it's a question of whether those disagreements are truly with the faith or a misperception of the faith. What saddens me more than the pure hatred I see spewed everyday is how easily people are fooled by slop, despite how many research tools exist today. If you see a claim about a verse or belief, it takes 2 seconds to paste it into Google or GPT and find out if it's legit or not. Too many people believe the stupidest slop simply because they don't check. I have seen 1000x more people concerned about the "Islamification" of America (Only 1.3% of the population) over the fact that our whole government and all the major industries are run by a satanic human trafficking cult.
What I've noticed with Steve Hilton is that his campaign has a lot more energy than recent Republican Gubernatorial Candidates The past few races were pretty dead. Hilton has a lot more momentum. California might possibly have a Republican governor next year.

Every bit of content on Surf is transparent in terms of where it came from. There are estimates that around 50% of people on social media are bots. There's a chance that half the people you interact with aren't even real. They're both accounts from foreign governments or bad actors that are trying to influence how you think. That's why I've put a lot of effort into maximizing content transparency and trying to get rid of opportunities for bots to make content or accounts.
The lone Black male juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial, who refused to acquit Clancy despite pressure from the media and the 11 other jurors, has been doxxed, had his home visited by hostile Clancy supporters, had his family contacted, and had past allegations against him dug up.

Dario Amodei has called for a slowdown in AI progress, claiming that AI systems could soon break free from human control and wreak havoc. Amodei has long called for government regulation of AI and safety checks on newer systems.

There is so much disinformation being pushed about Islam and Muslims. I believe it's a psy-op. I hold no resentment or issue with people who theologically disagree with Islam. Alright, you believe Islam is false, you do you. But when people intentionally spread falsehood about the faith, when they know it's false, that's where I seriously start to have massive questions.
I agree that we are seeing a decline in the quality of K-12. Some educators simply suck. However, I also think there is a big systemic issue with the government. Some state governments are focused on everything but the actual education of students. Some actively try to push down students.
